London to Uzbekistan Rail Adventure
Small Group Tour
From St Pancras to the Silk Road: A Flight-Free Rail Odyssey
A 31-day, flight-free journey by first-class rail and classic sleepers—via Europe, the Caucasus, and a rare Caspian Sea crossing—ending in the Silk Road cities of Uzbekistan.
Travel overland from London to Central Asia on an extraordinary, fully escorted rail expedition that celebrates the romance of the journey as much as the destination. From the elegance of Paris and Vienna to the energy of Istanbul and the vineyards of Georgia, you’ll follow historic routes across Europe and the Caucasus by a remarkable mix of high-speed services, iconic sleeper trains—including Turkey’s legendary Doğu Express—and carefully timed transfers, all with the reassurance of a small group (max 12) and an experienced tour leader throughout.
Along the way, immerse yourself in culture and place: a Bosphorus cruise and Turkish marbling workshop, wine tastings in Kakheti, and guided encounters in cities that sit at the crossroads of continents. A defining highlight is the Caspian Sea crossing on a working cargo vessel—an authentic link between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan—before the grand finale in Uzbekistan, where UNESCO-listed Khiva and historic Bukhara deliver a powerful sense of arrival. With mostly five-star hotels and standout dining experiences included, this is slow travel at its most rewarding—deep, connected, and unforgettable.

Important Information
We constantly monitor the advice posted by the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and will always advise clients of any travel warnings.
At the time of writing, there are no warnings in place for areas visited on this tour. Please note this information applies to British citizens; other nationals should check the current position of their respective government.
For the latest country-by-country advice, please refer to: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.
Hotel check-in times: As a general rule, most hotels allow check-in from 2pm. Unless stated otherwise, the tour price does not include guaranteed early check-in. Please ask us if you would like to arrange early check-in where possible.
Accommodation rating: Hotels are carefully selected for location and facilities. With some exceptions, most properties are 4- or 5-star.
Food & drink: Your meal basis is shown in the itinerary (generally daily breakfast, plus lunch and/or dinner where indicated). On-train catering cannot usually be pre-paid and may be limited, so please carry sufficient cash. Euros and US dollars tend to be the most widely accepted overall.
Dietary requirements: Please notify us at the time of booking. While we will do our best, we cannot guarantee all dietary requests can be accommodated, particularly on trains beyond Western Europe.
You will need extra spending money for meals and drinks not included, optional sightseeing, souvenirs, and items of a personal nature (e.g., laundry beyond the included allowance).
Food guideline: Lunch or dinner typically ranges from £15 to £25, depending on location and restaurant style.
Tipping is discretionary but customary. We suggest budgeting $5–$10 per person for each local guided tour (depending on duration and service).
In most countries visited it is customary to leave around 10% in restaurants for waiters/bar staff.
Please take good care of personal belongings and keep passports, documents, valuables, and essential medicines in a separate day bag that stays with you at all times.
Some trains have attendants and/or lockable compartments, but this varies. If leaving your compartment, ask the attendant to lock it where possible. Many experienced travellers bring a small combination cable padlock to help secure baggage to luggage racks.
ATM availability: Widely available in the major cities visited on this tour.
Card acceptance: Widely accepted in main cities, hotels, and larger restaurants, but more limited on trains—particularly beyond Western Europe.
Recommended currency for exchange: Euros and US dollars.
Where to exchange: Exchange facilities are generally available at railway stations. Local guides and hotel reception can assist.
Our advertised prices do not include the cost of international flights. Please contact us if you would like a quotation for a flight-inclusive package (protected by the UK CAA ATOL scheme where applicable).
Adequate, valid travel insurance is a condition of booking. It is your responsibility to ensure you are covered for medical expenses, emergency repatriation, and any activities you intend to undertake (including optional activities). Your policy must be valid for the entire duration of your holiday.
Visa requirements can change without notice. It is essential that you verify the latest information with your nearest embassy, consulate, or visa agency—both at the time of booking and again when paying your balance.
As per the tour dossier: UK, US, and Australian passport holders do not require a visa for travel to EU states, Georgia, Kazakhstan, or Uzbekistan. British citizens travelling to Turkey for tourism can enter visa-free for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period (other nationalities should check).
UK, US, and Australian passport holders will require a visa for travel to Azerbaijan (check the latest process and entry requirements).
You are responsible for holding a full passport valid for at least six months after your return date.
We strongly advise your passport has at least two blank pages. Some countries require the two blank pages to face each other. If you cannot meet requirements you may be refused boarding or denied entry.
For UK citizens, see: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.
We strongly recommend contacting your doctor’s surgery or a specialist travel clinic for up-to-date advice.
For visits of less than a month, you may be advised to have immunisations against: Diphtheria and Tetanus, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Meningitis.
